What we do?


As a part of NCIT Summer Schools , the Computer Science department of Politehnica University of Bucharest in collaboration with ROSEdu and Systems Group organizes Open Source Summer School. OSSS is a two weeks intensive course, consisting of technical talks, presentations, seminars and hackathons. Our main goal is to provide the basic skills and knowledge required to take part in Open Source projects.

Summer Workshops

ROSEdu Summer Workshops brings fun and interesting trainings during the summer time. Our workshops cover areas like: functional programming, machine learning, scrum methodology, photography and many more.


The Comunity and Development Lab (CDL) is an 8 - 9 week intensive event, addressed mainly to the first and second year students of the Politehnica University of Bucharest. The course aims to involve students in existing open source projects with the help of an experienced mentor in the development side of the project.

Linux Install Fest

In the tradition of Open Source groups, ROSEdu organises LIFs (Linux Install Fests). One of the first community events that ROSEdu organized was the Ubuntu Install Fest (UIF). We have coordinated three Ubuntu Install Fests following the same recipe used by other Ubuntu Communities.

World of USO

World of USO is a quiz game framework. It has been used since 2007 as a support game for the Introduction to Operating Systems class (USO) by 1st year students at the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computers, University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest.


D'Android encourages the development of mobile aplications, emphasising the key features of the Android open-source platform.


WebDev is a practical 11-week web development course. Second and third year students are taught all they need to know, and more, in order to develop their own MiniStackOverflow platform. From the HTTP protocol, to HTML5 and CSS3 magic, to the Ruby programming language, professional mentors are always present to guide them along the way.

Upstream Challenge

Upstream Challenge is a competition addressed to all bachelor students in which we encourage them to contribute to Open Source projects with relevant patches. In this way, they will become accustomed and attached to some projects, becoming core contributors there.

ROSEdu Challenge

ROSEdu Challenge (RC) is a competition which awards contributions to ROSEdu's open source projects. We help improve coding skills through code review and offer the possibility to interact directly with the people behind our projects. Our Challenge is not only limited to technical contributions, you can also get points for blog posts, website templates or designed logos.


Linux Professional Institute (LPI) is a non-profit organization that promotes Linux and Open Source. LPI's declared mission is "to provide a global framework, industry leadership and services to enhance, develop and further lifelong professional careers in Linux and Open Source technologies." ROSEdu has become and official LPI Approved Academic Training Partner in order to help students obtain the industry approved Linux certification.
